The Red Elephant is always looking for volunteers to join its team! While experience is an asset, it is not essential – our team has a range of experience and is happy to mentor committed volunteers. Directors must attend a monthly board meeting (roughly one hour duration) and commit between two-to-eight hours per month to fulfill their duties. Secretary

The secretary will form an integral component of the organization, ensuring that we remain on track with all of our administrative and organizational duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • It shall be the duty of the Secretary to attend all meetings of the Executive Board and the Board of Directors, and to keep accurate minutes of the same.
  • He/she shall prepare and distribute meeting agendas no later than five (5) business days in advance of the meeting.
  • He/she shall prepare and distribute meeting minutes no later than five (5) business days following the meeting.
  • These minutes will be stored in hard copy, as well as in electronic copy.
  • The Secretary will be expected to maintain ordinance of the electronic mail accounts and ensure that materials and documentation are distributed both electronically and traditionally (by post) in a timely manner, at the request of the other Directors.
  • The Secretary will have voting authority on the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • English language proficiency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Reliable access to a computer with internet
  • Experience on a non-profit Board is an asset

Commitment Required:

  • Board of Directors meetings are held monthly, typically in the morning of the second Saturday of every month. This meeting time is flexible, and can change from month to month.
  • The Red Elephant asks that any individual interested in this position be willing to commit at least one year to the Board.

Communications Coordinator

The Communications Coordinator will form an integral component of the organization, ensuring that we are able to successfully promote the organization, its mandate, and its events. The individual in this position is responsible for managing our social media accounts, managing our website, and coordinating promotional campaigns.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • It shall be the duty of the Communications Coordinator to attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, as well as any meetings held separately by their respective committee.
  • The Communications Coordinator will be expected to keep accurate minutes of his/her committee meetings, and will be expected to distribute those minutes to the Board of Directors no later than five (5) business days after the conclusion of the meeting.
  • The Communications Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the operation of his/her committee, and assuring that any tasks assigned to the committee by the Executive Board or the Board of Directors is completed in a timely manner with the integrity of the organization upheld in the final result.
    • These tasks include drafting/scheduling social media posts (including the creating of graphics and content), managing the website, and drafting event posters and other promotional materials.
  • The Communications Coordinator will have voting authority on the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • English language proficiency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience on a non-profit Board is an asset
  • Experience managing social media for an organization is an asset

Commitment required:

  • Committee meetings are held at the discretion of the Fundraising – Events Coordinator.
  • The Red Elephant asks that any individual interested in this position be willing to commit at least one year to the Board.

Fundraising: Events Coordinator

The Fundraising – Events Coordinator will form an integral component of the organization, ensuring that we are able to successfully fundraise for the projects that we seek to fund.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • It shall be the duty of the Fundraising – Events Coordinator to attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, as well as any meetings held separately by their respective committee.
  • The Fundraising – Events Coordinator will be expected to keep accurate minutes of his/her committee meetings, and will be expected to distribute those minutes to the Board of Directors no later than five (5) business days after the conclusion of the meeting.
  • The Fundraising – Events Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the operation of his/her committee, and assuring that any tasks assigned to the committee by the Executive Board or the Board of Directors is completed in a timely manner with the integrity of the organization upheld in the final result.
  • The Fundraising – Events Coordinator is responsible for planning and executing at least one event quarterly (with the support of the organization’s membership).
  • The Fundraising – Events Coordinator is responsible managing volunteer schedules for any events planned by their committee.
  • The Fundraising – Events Coordinator will have voting authority on the Board of Directors.

  • English language proficiency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience on a non-profit Board is an asset
  • Experience planning events is an asset

Fundraising: Product Sales/Marketing Coordinator

The Fundraising: Product Sales/Marketing Coordinator will form an integral component of the organization, ensuring that we are able to successfully fundraise for the projects that we seek to fund. The individual in this position is responsible for seeking out opportunities (markets, shops, etc.) for The Red Elephant to sell the bath and body products that are produced by the board.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • It shall be the duty of the Fundraising – Product Sales/Marketing Coordinator to attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, as well as any meetings held separately by their respective committee.
  • The Fundraising – Product Sales/Marketing Coordinator will be expected to keep accurate minutes of his/her committee meetings, and will be expected to distribute those minutes to the Board of Directors no later than five (5) business days after the conclusion of the meeting.
  • The Fundraising – Product Sales/Marketing Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the operation of his/her committee, and assuring that any tasks assigned to the committee by the Executive Board or the Board of Directors is completed in a timely manner with the integrity of the organization upheld in the final result.

Partnerships Coordinator

The Partnerships Coordinator will form an integral component of the organization, ensuring that we are able to form more partnerships with organizations deemed as “qualified donees” by the Canada Revenue Agency. More diverse partnerships will allow The Red Elephant to further spread their program model, and ultimately benefit more girls and women around the world.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • It shall be the duty of the Partnerships Coordinator to attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, as well as any meetings held separately by their respective committee.
  • The Partnerships Coordinator will be expected to keep accurate minutes of his/her committee meetings, and will be expected to distribute those minutes to the Board of Directors no later than five (5) business days after the conclusion of the meeting.
  • The Partnerships Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the operation of his/her committee, and assuring that any tasks assigned to the committee by the Executive Board or the Board of Directors is completed in a timely manner with the integrity of the organization upheld in the final result.

General Volunteer

General members of the organization will be able to volunteer with various committees for various different purposes as they see fit. The opportunities to get involved vary and can range in time commitment and purpose.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • General members will be required to uphold the integrity of the organization in all work that they do while representing the organization.
  • Board positions are available.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • English language proficiency

Commitment required:

  • General members are able to determine how much time they are willing to commit to the organization, and work with the Board of Directors/committee coordinators to determine where their skills would be best suited.
